Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM04038 - Produce polymer patterns

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Determine job requirements

  1. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  3. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  4. Identify job requirements from specifications

Inspect and prepare patterns or cores

  1. Inspect patterns or cores for appropriate surface finish and set up on joint line or flat board to specification
  2. Select and apply appropriate parting agent to specifications

Manufacture moulds, patterns and tooling aids

  1. Select appropriate polymer materials to specifications
  2. Mix polymer and hardener to correct ratios and specifications using manufacturer safety guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  3. Apply polymer to specification and use predetermined methods, ensuring that air is not entrapped in application, excessive heat is not generated and delamination does not occur in final use
  4. Strip, inspect, clean and repair pattern or core box to specifications
  5. Machine and finish faces of polymer pattern to specifications
  6. Apply appropriate method of location to patterns or core boxes
  7. Check polymer tooling for conformance to specifications
